I picked this up today. The collector who had it doesn't know when or who used it, or even when or where he bought it. The price was right so I took a chance. Any ideas?

Is that supposed to be a lance rest? I see there's a proof mark, but the metal doesn't look substantial enough to take the blow. It certainly is crudely made, but beyond that I've no idea. Looks like something from LAARP or SCA to me, but then I don't know this type of thing anywhere near as well as you do.
