Naval Wound Badge

Here’s a very nice piece I paid dearly for, but it was worth it as I have seen only a couple ones in better condition.

Silver wound badge for naval personnel. These would’ve mostly gone to coastal troops considering the chances of being wounded multiple times on a U-boat or a surface vessel wasn’t very common. Either you got wounded once in an engagement or you didn’t live to tell the tale. It was instituted in June of 1918 after the army wound badge. Both versions have very few wartime examples known and were predominantly made in the 20’s and 30’s.

Nice find!

These certainly are hard to pick up. I have the Black version but, have pretty much given up on finding the Silver and Gold versions.

I hate myself because the day after I ordered this, the dealer listed a MINT gold example which I missed and was sold to someone else.
