It's easy to distinguish EM/OR headgear, namely the Schirmmützen, from their Officer counterparts mainly thanks to to the cockades.
However how do you distinguish a high ranking NCO Schirmmütze from that of an Officer when looking at its cockades?
What about the Schirmmützen that have an Officer style Reichs cockade and a regular (painted) EM/OR state cockade simultaneously? What do these tell us?

How can one tell Private Purchase Schirmmützen from Issued?
And is it true that NCO's were allowed to have Officer cockades on their private purchase headgear (namely the Schirmmützen)?
