New Baden Friend

Started collecting in September. Never knew the history of the Pickelhaube and now I really enjoy reading and looking at the history.

Skins,
Welcome to the site. I am happy to see another new collector with an M15 Baden Pickelhaube. I picked up my first Pickelhaube, a unit marked Baden M15, this past Fall and paid the same price but it didn't have the kokardes nor a repro chinstrap so barring any internal signs of your helmet being modified, it looks like you did fine. The unit marking on my Pickelhaube matches that of my P08 which is the reason that I became interested in acquiring it. If you provide a couple of clear pictures of the liner and the inside of the helmet, the experts here will be able to tell you a bit more. There are a multitude of nuances to this hobby and many on this site have spent the better part of their adult lives studying and collecting. Several have written authoritative books and articles so you have come to the right place. The Kaisersbunker site is another excellent resource which you should study.

JR 69 is a Prussian Regt not Baden so that plate has been put on to increase the value of the helmet. Often, the Baden plate will fit the holes of a Prussian helmet. Those markings stand for. Infantry Regt 69, 3rd Battallion. 1909 is the date that the helmet was received by the Regt. So the markings are legit but the helmet plate is not.

No problem Skins, that is really "The Prime Directive" here...make sure that our fellow collectors especially the new kids, don't get screwed!

Also, I am looking at a Baden helmet in Brass and JR69 III B 1909 stamped. Is this something legitimate? I really appreciate your time and the weblinks.Thank you

Hello Gents,

Maybe the marking ist not JR69 but JR169...That would be a Baden unit

Hi Leone,

That's a beautiful helmet, congratulations! =D>

You have a great pair of artillery helmets as shown in the photo with your Saxon haube! :thumb up:

Best Regards,

Alan

The cockade looks original, but is unusual in the fact that it is in the Saxon style with smooth edges. The Baden OR's cockade comes in 2 forms both with serrated edges. One style, is a brass cockade unpainted except for a red ring on it, the other a yellow painted serrated disc with red ring. I have seen a Prussian Prussian cockade done in the Saxon style but never this. We have a cockade thread in the pickelhaubes discussion area so take a look at all the examples.
