Greetings Gentlemen,

Excuse my english but I'm from Eastern Canada and we only speak french, I only use English for my collecting purposes, which is also a nice thing, haaaaaaaa.

I first discovered this web site through James Lebrasseur and I'm amazed
to see the wealth of informations available on the forum.
I've been collecting Third Reich militaria for 10 years but I've always had my eyes on Pickelhaubes.
Since I'm not a rich man, I wasn't able to collect both the Pickelhaubes and the edged weapons, I had to make a decision.
Now that I've turned 50 years old, I also needed a new challenge in my collecting life and I think that the world of the pickelhaubes will be perfect for that.

I need to buy couple of reference books in order to make my education. I found the pickelhaubes very complex, much more than the edged weapons from the Third Reich.

I recently bought 2 pickelhaubes from Germany, which I will be receiving in the next few days but at the moment, I only had one pickelhaube, a classic Officer Infantry Prussian, which I bought on eBay many years ago and which I will post pictures of in a few minutes.

Glad to be on board gentlemen.

Welcome Pat,
If you have already met James, then thing should be better from here on. Do not worry about your English, it is probably better than most of ours. And James can not speak French, even thought he is French Canadian.

Pat- welcome, glad you took a look at the site.

We have a great group here (even Gus)

Ask lots of questions and learn, I continue to learn on this site all the time.

Pat,

Welcome !
No need to be rich to collect Imperial German Headgear... :)
...Though...it might help a lot 8-) ...

That is the 'sport' and the spirit of collecting: the 'hunt' for that fine helmet ! Being able to decline an offer: ...for all kind of reasons: condition, "not fitting in your collection"; poor information/pictures...; waiting for this one 'fine' piece of headgear; even when it takes some years !

And-last but not least- what makes this forum so great:
this guys are always there to share their knowledge and experience. 8-)

Regards,
Francis

Oh yes: I'm looking for a 'fine' Jäger zu Pferde Mod 1905 other ranks...

Thank you guys for your warm welcome.
I'm still trying to cope on how to post some pictures.

If you know James check your wallet. Really nice family but sometimes… He is always off to the races at SOS looking for a deal! I think Francis said it very well–welcome.

Hello Pat and welcome,

First, dare I say....I have some French Canadian ancestors in my family tree. Goes way back to the early days of settlement in the St.Louis, Missouri River area (1700s). Of course, that blood is well diluted by now with Irish, German and English, so I just stick with a Heinz 57 description of my background. :)

Regarding your interest in Pickelhauben, all I can suggest is do your homework, look at all the original pieces you can and get the help of the very knowledgeable collectors here on the forum. One mistake can cost you plenty in the increasingly expensive world of Pickelhaube collecting. I wish you the best of luck with your new interest.

Best regards,
Chip

Welcome Pat !

This is a great place. I was struck by the Haube virus about 1 year ago and my daily reading of this forum gave me a great boost. One thing for sure, these guys did not cure me, I'm getting worse

Why would we want to cure anyone, we are like drug adicts, the more people who become adicted like us, the more we look normal. OK, Haube collectors will never be normal, but misery loves company.
Best
Gus

Yes Gus , like a bucket of crabs. When one crab tries to climb out his friends are there to pull him back in! :wav:
