Hi folks,

I haven't posted here much, but enjoy dropping in from time to time in order to see what's up with fellow collectors.

Here are my latest:

A General zu Parade helmet I bought last spring.

Also a General a'la Suite just a month later.

My wife is a saint for letting me purchase these one after another. Both came off of ebay. The General's Parade helmet came from a private collector via Helmut Weitze and the a'la Suite from Craig Gottlieb.

I also bought back an M15 that I'd sold many years ago to a friend, so now I've every Pickelhaube I've ever owned back in my collection, which is cool.

Looks like you have two cool helmets there Ron. I think they deserve some more and larger pics... :headbang:

Congratulations. These look great. I also would like to see larger pictures of the yellow one.

I'll need to take better photos than the ones I have, but here's one of both helmets on the shelf along with a trench art 'beer stein'.

By the way, both of these are on stands, but I like to make the height so the visors just touch the shelf, or are close.

This is a good thing, as the weight of the helmets will stress the stitching of the visors and cause the to sepperate over time.

I've been collecting since the 1970's and just now got these... be patient my friend!

A agree about stands. Every one of mine are on a form (ceramic that I make myself, NO styrofoam!) and displayed either just touching or just above the shelf.

Again, I'll post more pix when I get some good lighting. My photo set up at home isn't the greatest.

The stein is from a 3 in field gun shell casing, obviously turned out by a skilled person or group of people because the parts are so professionally made. Base markings, for you ordnace type folks are:

"W.N.Y" at top

"1-1903" Below it above the primer,

"3 IN FG" (with the IN a bit smaller to indicate 'inch') Below the primer and

"E.C.P. (anchor symbol) J.W.G" at the bottom.

The handle is cast brass with a cartridge attached to it and another cartridge forms the finial at top.

the casing was obviously turned on a beading tool, but decoration (Oak leaves and other chasing) were done by hand.

A friend of mine who collect steins said he's never seen one like it, which of course makes me happy.

My thought is that they were manufactured as keepsakes for one unit or other.

Here are more photos of the helmets. After photographing the General's helmet, I relized the enameled eagle was a bit crooked... It's straight now. A bit loose in its mount, but it doesn't affect anything. I hope you enjoy the photos.

You can see that a bit of the silvering is worn through, but still a nice helmet.

And, on the shelf with a new Bavarian officer helmet, which you may have seen on ebay. This is my only good Bayernisch officer helmet so... (I love a flash. Always shows that I need to dust the shelf; after having brushed off the helmets )
