G'day All!

I am going to venture to say that this helmet looks mighty interesting:

Is it Police?

The wappen is quite nifty. Would that be for Hannover or (?)?

Cheers,

Laurie

Fire officer helmet. I have one exactly the same except for the centre red shield. Mine has the green background shield and wavy brass line which indicates Rhineland area. The helmet in my collection also lacks the crown on the wappen as this does. Unlike this one, my helmet has the NCO ring of pearls around the spike neck but stars are still used as spike base fasteners. Brian

Thanks Brian,

Is it the shape of the spike that dictates Fire? Pointy for fire, ball-topped spike for police?

I expected a fire officers helmet would have the wide protective comb along its top and down the back.

I didn't notice the crown missing on the bird. That dates it post-WW1, doesn't it? How late did civil authorities continue to use pickelhaubes after the war?

Cheers,

Laurie
