IMO one of the best posts in a while .
Of course I must admit that I am a Grenadier "Nut "
In my years of collecting I was never able to find an officers
Waffenrock to buy for my collection .
The best that I could do was the collar and cuffs from one .
I do also have a pair of Major's epaulettes

You are right pppara, you have really a treasure. I love it.

Thanks for your comments gentlemens.
A fellow collector sent to me the decorations he was awarded.raumer11.jpg
med4.jpg

Among the crown order and red eagle order he was also awarded the china commemorative medal.
The system of ventilation observed on this helmet reminds the one you could see on 0stasiatisches Expeditionskorp helmets.
remember this one:
casque tropical1.jpgCASQUE TROPICAL2.jpgCASQUE TROPICAL 3.jpg

it's likely that the OBERST RAUMER has been inspired by its overseas assignment....
I have to do some searchs again to determine the complete career of this officer.

pierrick

So....it would seem that this helmet was designed for tropical use?? This would obviously explain the ventilation system.

I have to do some searchs again to determine the complete career of this officer.

Karl von Raumer entered IR 45 as an Avantegeur (Fahnenjunker) in 1879 and was commissioned as a Sekonde-Lieutenant in that regiment on 16 November 1880. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on 21 September 1889, he was subsequently detached for service as an instructor at the Bensberg cadet school. On 17 June 1893 he was transferred to IR 141on relinquishing his appointment at Bensberg and was promoted to Hauptmann effective 14 May 1894. He was further transferred to the newly formed IR 175 on 1 April 1897. On 18 August 1899 he was assigned as a company leader at the NCO school in Biebrich from which he deployed with the 6. Ostasiatische-Infanterie-Regiment to China (hence the China commemorative medal). ON return to Germany, he was assigned to GR 3 which brings us up to date. He died as a retired Oberst in 1922.

Great info as always
thanks for the complete post
Steve

Hi glenn,
Great, the quest is over ! Thanks a lot!
Could you tell me where and how you find these pièce of informations?
Regards
Pierrick

Hi Pierrick,

I was able to determine his career using the “Militär-Wochenblatt” and his entries in the Prussian “Ranglisten”. Unfortunately none of the regiments in which he served had a published “Offizier-Stammliste” which detailed the entire careers of the regimental officers (an often medical and veterinary officers and Zahlmeisters).

Regards
Glenn

Thanks a lot Glenn!
I didn't know the "militar wochenblatt". I'll look at this documents if i find them.
I found a polish (former silesia) library on the net which have scan a large number of ranglisten...
Thanks again.
