odd chinstrap on a Prussian M15

these are all the pics i have. can someone please identify the chinstrap? it looks like an officer's with scales, but the ends are of a regular enlisted man's... thank you

Welcome to the forum Luftwaffenkopf,
To me it looks like a collector's up grade to the helmet, it is difficult to tell much from the photos.

Considering that the chinscales are pointed in the wrong direction, I don't think this would be individualization by a soldier in the field... If they were in the right direction, then that may have been a possibility.
