Look at the spike on this... I don't know if it's the light or what, but it looks like somebody photoshopped one of those Indian made spikes on this... What do you folks think?

Or am I looking at the photo wrong? hmmmm.

I think part of the problem is that the subject moved when the photo was taken.

That might be a Polizeidragoner from Bremen. Raedeke pictures an earlier helmet and only give vague hints about the further development.
 
I think Ron is right -- it does look like one of those -- but even worse -- doesn't it look like his head is sort of glued on? I mean there is something unnatural about the way his head fits on his shoulders. :sad4: :sad4:
 
Ohhhh Tony..... LOL! Yes, we've had some doozies. I personally will pick on every and any president.

An odd looking photo to be sure... one that just doesn't look right. But then, people were pretty odd looking back then when they had to really hold still for a photo.

Uhm.. am I missing something? Is there something wrong with him? Missing shades or something unnatural?

Yes there is something odd, the shadow of the shoulder strap dows not match the shadows of his face.

I understand.. the far right side of his face should be darker. I would assume the photographer might have used a technique called "Abwedeln" in German (a dictionary translates this into "dodge" in English). This is used to brighten up areas by covering them during the enlarging process. But you are right it may also be a patchwork picture. His left eye might be fake. i.e. retouched.
 
So Robert, would the spike be correct? Looks like a cross between a Kurassier and one of those repro's from India. If it is correct, I find it interesting, as I've never seen one like that before.
