Officer 1843 kurassier nickel plate restoration

Hello need some advice on how to restore the body of this 1843 officer Kurrasier. You can see that it is/was nickel plated and it’s badly rusted through. Previous owner sanded the body but not the visors. This incongruency leads me to think that it should be polished to match and to read it of the rust and last bit of plating. Any thoughts or ideas on how to proceed be much appreciated

That is a very difficult issue to improve.

May I ask, am I actually seeing a Kürassier helmet with a hinged front visor like an 1400s Sallet helmet? That is astounding.

A very nice old helmet. This helmet was not originally nickel-plated. Nickel-plated helmets didn't come around until after about 1880. So remove that coating or whatever it is and polish the helmet.
i am in charge of the militaria collection in a museum. there is an m1843 officer who unfortunately got chromed about 30 years ago.

The Koller is for enlisted men, nice Kammerstück, but converted to look like an officer. Sadly. Epaulett from Regiment Nr.4 with painted underlay.

This was my impression, as discussed in the thread below, but I was not 100% sure. Thank you for this first confirmation.
