The liner looks original to me, unique way of lining the helmet and would that mean that the fabric covered the spike base?
 
Yes, I believe it is original, just a very different/unique type of liner. It would be the first time I have seen this type of liner.

What I can't tell is whether or not there is cloth covering the inside of the helmet body. It's hard to tell from the way the seller took the photos.
