Interesting, it's a bulet hole on the spike. The guy scaped to death just for a litlle centimeters!

Hey Stu,
This is a reare helmet, it was not tractor that rean over this helmet, it was a tank. And as for the bullet hole, I suspect that it would be schrapnel, as a bullet would have completely penitrated the spike, but death wa still escaped by centimeters.

If it was an actual battle wounb to the helmt would probably ball shrapnell . but thats wht you get for storing your haube on the battlefirld through 2 wars .

It might also be noted that the photo would not be of the wearer of the helmet, as his is not battle damaged. And on another note, the reason the Germans objected to the use of Shotguns by the Americans, was because the projectiles were unjacketed lead, and thus considered poisonous, but I believe that all sides used lead balls in the schrapnel shells used.
