I was going to pass on this one, but the price was right and the liner is simply one of the best I have ever seen on a OR Tschapka.

Now I am a official member of the Tschapka missing the Mortar board club!

maker marked, I did not see this one on Joe's list so I will ad that to that posting, if I missed it and it is already there, I apologize!

Also marked 58, for a big head, it almost fits!

if anyone has or knows of a original laying around, please let me know. I do not want a repo.

Makes you wonder why so many are without the mortar board? scrap metal? any ideas?

Yeah!!! Very nice Chas and welcome to the club, even I belong now to the Laurie's top copies tin top club  Your latest Tschapka is very nice and in a mint condition, probably a "war bond helmet", isn't it? And always starless...

Just a question about your twoo all leather mod 15 Tschapkas, do they have a maker mark, who? A Dahl??? Barmen????

Maxime

Maxime- sorry I am not Chas, however, I would like to own his collection!

On the maker marks for the leather Tschapkas

The one on the left is marked:

H. Muller

and the one on the far right is marked:

Alexander Dahl Helmfabrik --Barmen, Ritterhausen

SO does this kind of kill the theory that all leather M15's where made by

Alexander Dahl Helmfabrik --Barmen, Ritterhausen??

I think the theory can still stand for now!

The H. Muller on the far left has been chemically darkened to grey from Brass.

Hi James:
An excellent piece as always! The liner is fantastic. I think that we just have to accept the fact that these M15s' come with missing garde stars and sometimes mortar board tops. we will never know haow things got lost or whether they were issued that way (I seriously doubt this). If in truth it is a bond helmet then there is any number of explanations as to how the top got lost. Brian

Good luck with that James. I have duct-taped my hands a few times when I was tempoted to buy a no-top Tschapka. But having lived through the agony a few times of tunics/helmets missing parts and then selling them years later in frustration, I think twice. Your best hope is to find a trashed original, where the top is good.

Tony- I really tried not to buy it, but for $600... and like I said it is the best liner example I have ever seen, I had to do it.

I am 41, figure I got a good 25 to 30 years to try and find a top, you never know :)

Deep down, I know you will find me one, and we will all be happy :D :D

James

I guess I could take the Mortar board off the other gaurd Ulan helmet, but guess what the liner is just as nice!

Ok I admit I have a problem, I cannot stop buying helmets, please help me :P

Hey James,
There is only one way to help you, and that is for you to send me all your helmets. I will meet you in the rest room and if I tap my toes, do not worry, I am probably just constipated. By the way, you must go cold turkey if you really want to be cured, so that means I will have to relieve you of any related items, like Waffenrock, Kurasse, rifles or bayonets (to be safe, I had better take you allowance for collecting, too) In return I will send you another bottle from the vodka of the month club. (did you get ther last one with the toys?)
Best wishes
Gsu

James...is your latest tshapka made from vulcan fibre? It looks to be so in your picture of that excellent liner. Brian
