On AOK web site there is a Wuttemberg OVY.

Now I thought I knew what I was looking at but now I'm totaly confused.
My problem is I thought OYV could use rosette or the M91 lug on their private purchase helmets. I checked out Joe's and Tony's web pages and both have said both could be used but, after digging deeper other post have disagreed. Were my eyes bigger than my stomach on this one or am I missing something I should have picked up with some more research. I'm sure some one is going to put a broadside threw me on this one but I'm reallly confused. So I guess the real question is was this haube a eigentums-helm purchased by a OYV or Fahnrich or a private purchase haube jazzed up a because the guy had money. I'm at a fork in the road and I'm going down the middle. Please help and sorry if this is a dumb question.
Thanks in advance

Joel,

Don't panic! I'm not exactly sure where your question is, but it might be from the thread on photographer props??? Is that where your confusion started? -- I have some more information that I have recently gotten that might put some of that into perspective however, I'm still working on it -- and tonight is the Spurs game. So was that the thread you were worried about?

Joe

Thanks for helping and I really don't want to jink the spurs for ya (can you say another ring on river walk) :D I guess the real question is, is the M91 lug chinscale correct on that OYV haube or should it be a rosette. Which then makes it something entirely else. I checked through a lot of post and it seems like it should be a rosette but other post say almost any combination is ok for a OYV. I do trust AOK but, like every one says "use your own eyes and knowledge not the discription of the seller" My first and I'm boucing off the walls disecting every little thing making sure I get what I want. You think you know enough to make a good choice but theres always more.
Thanks for taking the time to responed. Go Spurs

It's either EJF or a private soldier. Pick one and run with it. :glasses8: The only thing it cannot be, is for a Fähnrich as they wore officer Kokarden.

Eigentums-helm were Pickelhauben that were privately purchased by an individual as you know by your research so far (way to go! Most people do not spend the time to research) An Eigentums-helm could be purchased by any soldier dependant upon the wealth of the individual, or for wear by Einjährig-Freiwilliger (One year volunteer) and Fähnrich.

Normally, rosettes were used on Eigentums-helm but M91 lugs are very often found, especially on Bayern Eigentums-helm.

By the way, "confused" is a normal state for this hobby. Trust me.......

Thank you very much, that is exactly what I needed to know. The info you can digest on this stuff can give you heart burn. I just want my first to be correct not something I look at every day wondering about. Your site and Joe's are great. Thank you for providing them.

Folks,

I finally redid the one-year volunteer article. Hopefully this is not as confusing. I know there are a million mistakes. If you’re interested it is located at:

Thanks and God bless.

I did not talk much about M91 posts- maybe I should have. I sent this information out to those on my mailing list -- it has been awhile since I have updated it. If you want to get e-mail announcements reference these articles send me your e-mail address and I will add you. Hope this helps.
