My latest find. An older model by all means (I would say, circa 1870):

- Polished steel (not plated)
- Short spike
- Flared lobstertail
- A single Prussian cockade on the right side
- Enlisted style leather liner

The helmet is 100% complete and original (but two of the spike base retaining studs)

The leather under the front visor is present but has almost totally lost its green colour. The velvet under the rear visor is badly damaged, but all there.

Wow that is an old beauty! Fantastic condition considering his age......much like me! :D

Bruno,

Can you feel the envy emanating from northern Australia? While your helmet is far better than my crummy reserve enlisted one, I thought I would try this occasion to bring up something that bothers me. I do not think it is in enlisted liner. I think it is a cheaper, older private purchase one. For some reason This has acquired the name of a pre-1880 officers liner but I think that is apocryphal. So I would argue that this liner it was either for so I would argue that this liner was either for a OYV or a "deinst" helmet.

Congratulatons Bruno, on doing a fantastic job breathing new life into this helmet. You've put a lot of hours into cleaning this rare helmet up, and it has paid off wonderfully. :bravo:

If anyone wants to see what it looked like before I sold it to Bruno, and he worked his magic, here's the link to the thread showing what it looked like when I found it back in March: http://www.pickelhaubes.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9604" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Congratulations again Bruno, you've brought this helmet back to its former glory! =D>

Best Regards,

Alan

Thank you, friends, for your comments.
Yes, you had all seen it before in its original condition, as described by Alan, but nobody seemed to have made the link. Joe, your comment about the liner is interesting. For me, it seemed to be the typical early type of liner for officer helmets, but could it rather be for a OYV? I do not know. Perhaps George Gaadt would have a clue. I should ask him.
Besides, though, the helmet exhibits all characteristics of an officer's.
My warm thanks go to Alan who gave me the opportunity to resurrect this nice and rare helmet. I will send more pictures when the restoration is completely over.
