Old timer

Excellent job Bruno. You fooled me completely....the helme looks totally different. May I ask what product/s you used to remove the rust?

Thank you Brian. Particularly touching to receive such a compliment from you!
I followed Alan's advice but could not find Evaporust in LA; I purchased the equivalent (basically, phosphoric acid) from a car supply store. It very efficiently removes rust (you have to be very careful not to leave a single drop of it on the liner or visor lining though!). The problem is that it leaves a greyish colour on the bare metal, which looks like zinc. Then starts the (very) tough job: re-polishing! I did it entirely by hand, using metal polishing paste on extra-fine steel wool. It took me several weeks; it was my evening leisure... In summary, a lot of patience and much elbow grease.

Been there and done that Bruno on an M 15 Kurassier which is in my collection. I was using 000 steel wool and Brasso but that was 15 years ago, at lot has changed :) Again, a remarkable job and a true testimony to the old values of determination, patience and elbow grease. Well done.
