Dear forum members,
i would like to introduce you to another exhibit from my collection.
This is the helmet model 1855 from the “Großherzoglich Oldenburgischen Infanterie-Regiment”!
The Oldenburg infantry was restructured with the “Highest Orde” of March 19, 1855. In terms of uniforms, the new formation also affected the helmet, which was now more and more adapted to the Prussian pattern (see the explanations in my book (“Die Uniformierung und Ausrüstung des Oldenburgischen Truppenkorps 1813 - 1867“, page 35-36).
In addition to the helmet height, shape and decoration (Helmzierrat), the modilication also affected the helmet tip, which replaced the unique “Oldenburg tip”.
For this purpose a “Prussian helmet” was specially requested bey the “assembly commission” from Berlin, in order not to “miss the style” according to the will of the Grand Duke!
The wearer of the helmet was the deserving Captain Schwertzel . His name entry can be seen on the inside of the back screen.
The helmet and its owner can also be verified with the present photo document!
Finally, here we see the result of the newly introduced helmet Model (M/55) for the oldenburg infantry In all its glory!
I hope the valued forum members enjoy this post
Best regards
Frank
