Please offer opinions on this Haube as I have a few of my own and want to confirm my suspicions. Parts look fake and later addition to it. Thanks

Joe,
In your first picture it looks like it might have some extra holes for a different size Wappen. In general it looks like it is in pretty rough shape. It wouldn't hold any interest for me but I don't know what the offering price is nor what your interests are.

Joe,

This is in really rough shape and that chinstrap thing is totally bogus. The cockades are beyond weird. It was an original helmet but would need a great deal of work. Perhaps Brian might have a more optimistic opinion.

I think your gut feeling is right on this one Joe. The others have pointed out shortcomings of this and the fact that the wappen looks to be replaced is enough to take this one off of the consideration list IMHO. It will be one you wished you hadn't purchased later on.
Welcome to the forum!

As Joe R said...chin strap is totally wrong. I would also pull the liner tongues up out of the shell and check the visor seams from the inside, using a flash light, look for any signs of glue/contact cement. I think the visors have been glued on. You can also examine the exterior visor stitching lines for areas where there is no thread visible but the visor fits close to the shell. No thread but close fit means glue! I would also not invest any money in this piece.

Thanks for the input, the helmet seemed like a bad addition and really off. I am glad I passed on it and my initial thoughts were confirmed. Thanks to everyone for the advice.

That's a big part of what this forum is about Joe H, to help keep each other from getting sucked into buying bogus stuff.
