Speaking of Cockades, I just received what looked to be an authentic EM Reichs Cockade that I had won on eBay US. To my dissapointment, it turned out to be a total flop/fake:
- The RED paint glows under a U.V. light when my other (original) cockades don't
- A small/tiny red paint chip-off reveals a brand new gray magnetic sheet metal (originals were painted all black first then the National Red & White colors were added)
- The ring has new off-white paint to simulate old/worn white color
- Moreover, it doesn't even fit the Pickelhaube M91 side posts as it should (slightly smaller center hole)
I'm returning it and will never buy cockades from eBay anymore unless I know the seller (like the very nice Prussian Cockade I bought from Brian a couple of months ago)... No matter how authentic these look, you could still be fooled as there are some things you can't see before actually holding the item in your hands.
Here's how my cockade looked when I first bought it thinking it was one awesome mint/unissued original piece:
I bet the seller will put it back for sale soon... :x
