An absolutely perfect picture comparing the two kinds of pages. This is an incredibly rare view of the inside of the higher cadet institution.

Inside the cadet corps social class was non-existent. One anachronistic institution existed, which ran counter to this classless society. The Corps of Pages was open only to the children of nobles. By an order of 1878, pages were drawn from the two highest classes of the HKA. A page had to be successful in his own right and been selected to enter the ranks of the Prima or the Selekta. Thirty cadets were chosen as Leibpagen and 30 additional cadets were chosen as Hofpagen. Leibpagen directly served a member of the royal family. Hofpagen performed general duties at the imperial court. When on official duties, the pages dressed in 18th century uniforms with the Leibpagen having a more ornate dress. These cadets who had exposure to royalty and the court were highly successful. Forty-seven percent of those Selekta who were pages became generals.

Great picture and infos, as always! Here is the Page for less noble events, a speciality beer made by our Tegernsee brewery at certain occasions..

Robert,

I think the beer company just swiped a famous painting for that beer label. :D The original painting is by a British artist and has nothing to do with pages.

George pointed me at this one! There are some markings on the back of the card that should allow me to determine which class this guy was in exactly–still working on it. von Bernuth as a Leibpagen in 1910. A 1910 picture of a cadet from an important family. The photographer is from Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

Well I seem to have confounded everyone. OIII Stands for:
OIII
age 14-15
Obertertia

He easily looks like he could be that young but then everything starts to unravel. If he was in that class in 1911 and 1912 and the picture was taken in 1910 he would be age 13 or 14. What the heck is he doing in the uniform of a page for the senior cadet school??? There is nothing that I know of that puts a page into circulation before he is Selekta or Prima.s even the source authors seem to be stopped. Was this guy so important that he was designated a page in his Obertertia year????

Here is another problem. Clearly looks like a page but what kind? A different year? A different kind of uniform? He seems old enough. My head is starting to hurt but I am the only person in the universe concerned. :-k :-k
