Persian Qajar Guard Helmet

I was fortunate to win this at auction last month. It was one of the last helmets I bought in 2015 but one my new favorites. Chris Flaherty has discussed these in some detail on the forum on his website:

The helmet is a Persian guard helmet used during the Qajar dynasty - probably 1890s and made in France. I agree with Chris Flaherty's speculation that these helmets were based on similar models used by the Egyptians.

Here is the helmet with my Persian parade helmet from the Victorian Era (left) and my Egyptian guard helmet (right). Sadly the Egyptian one isn't in as good of condition, but it is still a rare find.

Very cool and unusual Peter as always. I had absolutely no knowledge of these helmets, thank you for posting here and continually educating us all as to the world wide headdress which is out there and available to the collector.

Helmut Weitze has a similar Egyptian helmet for sale in near perfect condition, French production as mentioned:

I wish I had the funds to buy it, but truth is that my Egyptian helmet has a great story to go with. I know you buy the item not the story but the price was a whole lot less too!

My helmet was sold to me by a man in London who said his grandfather bought it in Cairo in 1919 after WWI. The helmet was in a box and apparently no one in the family thought much of it and when the man died it remained in a cellar in London from the 1920s until 2011! So I'm still happy to have it. It was in better shape I probably couldn't have bought it!
