Yep looks like a lot of damaged bits stuck on an old shell for effect. Spike looks like genuine battle damage, but from the entry and exit angle you would have to say that the unfortunate soul who was wearing it probably didn`t survive. It must have been a very close ground burst and I`m guessing It ripped that spike right off the top of the original helmet. Puts me in mind of the post I have going with Pierre at the moment, which I really need to find time to respond to. I can only hope that the spike wasn`t found with related remains. A good example of what people should not spend money on in my humble opinion.

Yes, but with the spike removed as shown on the following period picture, which shows a visit of "little Willie" to his troops.

If the spike was battle damaged, it was off of the head when that happened (all of the holes come from the inside). I agree with all of you, a real battle damaged helmet tells a story by its damage. This one just mumbles and makes things up as it goes along.

Auction ended with zero bids, which seems to indicate that potential buyers recognized it as utter crap :D
