All,

I have bought a pickelhaube ersatz with parade plume.
But never seen this one before.
Maybe somebody can help me.
The plume is 100% horsehair .
Helmet is written with 2 names.
And marked with looks like BAR II.
The frontplate i can not take it of or else the leather straps will gona break.
Hopefully somebody can tell me more about this helmet.
Thanks.

Looks like a nice M15 that somebody stuck a plume on for fun. I don't know of any regiment, company or band with a plume like that.

Otherwise, it looks like a nice M15.... with a hole from the plume in its 'spine'.

:D ROn

Ok thanks, strange that somebody did this.
Can the marking be BA I:I koenigsberg because it looks that konigsberg is written into the helmet.

Can it be that this was done just after the war, because it really looks very old (horsehair).
Maybe made as a souvenir for selling after the war.

The BA I represents the Army Korps district that received this M15 Prussian helmet from the manufacturer. Most M15's are not marked to a particular regiment as by 1915 the Germans had realized that helmet markings gave information to the enemy when captured or found on the battlefield. Most M95 pre war helmets were Korps and regimentally marked. I have seen M95's were these markings have been removed as well. The Army Korps numbers are most always in Roman numerals so BA 1, BA II, are the first and second Korps districts. BA I district was in North Eastern Germany bordering the Baltic around Konigsberg. The common exception to the use of Roman Korps numerals is found on Hessen helmets from BA XVIII, most are simply marked BA 18 as it took up less room on the rear visor. BA XVIII was the longest number in the entire German army.
So, the Konigsberg marking does match and is correct. Unfortunately, that harrbusch does not belong on this helmet.

Yes take it off, it is not proper for a model 1915 helmet. They did not wear those on M15 helmes.

No problem, thank you for joining the forum and posting your M15 helme. This is what the forum does.....help fellow collectors.

Okay let me get one thing straight! Yes, I tend to be on top of these things but it's not because of dislike, a vendetta or a crusade against a particular seller. Its ok in my opinion to sell reproductions, replica's and items of which the authenticity is questionable as long as this is explicitly mentioned in the description. However, I strongly disapprove the selling of dubious militaria especially if the seller knows that this is the case, which can be viewed as deceiving potential buyers. Offcourse potential buyers should in the first place convince themselves whether the stuff put up for auction is legit or not, but, however, the collectors community should also warn against dubious sellers as often happens on this forum. This to prevent potential buyers from spending their hard-earned money on crappy militaria, which still occurs quite frequently (I am speaking from personal experience here).

Taken together, I think its fair to say that one can never be warned sufficiently against dubious sellers.

Hmmmm.... looks quite familiar and offered as original :^o

From what I read in the ad, (my Dutch is worst than my German!), it mentions that the plume was added later? However, given the feedback on the forum, it seems that offering it for sale with the plume still on the helmet is a bit strange, because there seems to be no historic precedence for it. So, as it is, the helmet doesn't seem so much to be 'rare' as described, but 'altered' or 'customized'. Of course, it's your business not mine, and I'm pretty much done with my say.
