Pickelhaube for id and review

It is an earlier Prussian Garde helmet .
It has the " egg " ring around the spike base
so I think he was an N C O
The chin straps are screw in and not the later
lugs for hook on straps
I don't collect the earlier models
so others will be able to tell you the exact model .
Worth keeping and working on .

both rear & front visors need to be stitched.
If you can't do that work yourself
and want to keep the helmet
I suggest that you contact Brian for
some of his expert repair work
and sent him the helmet

It appears to be a private purchase Model 71 Garde Infantry, or artillery helmet (hard to say without marks or spike). Are the chinscales flat or convex? It's hard to tell from the photos.

John :)

I believe convex scales due to the curved "egg shaped" side bosses. These are designed to fit over the curve of the convex cavalry/mounted scales. Infantry bosses are flat circles because the scales are flat and the "boss" does not have to be curved. The square tongued liner is the pre 1880's officer type.
