It's been a while since I posted some pictures, but one hasn't always got the time to do so... Anyway, here's the first officers pickelhaube I managed to purchase ( a long time ago)...
It's an Officer's M95 Feldartillerie Schießschule Garde Korps or Garde Feldartillerie Regt.1, 2, 3 or 4.
It's a pitty the liner is torn a bit, but after all, it was my first...
Enjoy,

Adler

Great Helmet! Love the condition and the liner doesnt bother me a bit!

And great first Officers purchase, interesting that it would be a Artillery Regt. helmet.

Explain the "Schießschule" title for this helmet please.... :)

Excellent, I also have no problem with that liner. The stern on the wappen is unique. I would also like an answer to the last question when you can.

Karel stated it right. Garde pattern Feldartillerie Pickelhauben were worn by the Schießschule (Shooting School) as well as Garde Feldartillerie Regt.1, 2, 3 or 4.

Karel, I am more curious about the star on the Wappen. That is not officer pattern.

Thank you for your reactions gentlemen!
Ok, Tony already confirmed why it's Schießschule or Garde Feldartillerie... About the Star on the wappen I can only think it's a model for a Fahnrich... or is it something else?
I called it an officers model, because at the time I acquired this haube (about 20 years ago) from a long time knowledgable collector, he stated it is an officers model Schießschule because the star was completely silver and not with the enamel pieces as the garde star on a Garde Feldartillery helmet. I never doubted his knowledge, but as I already learned over the years, nobody knows everything...
I've never encountered a helmet in this configuration, not in books or original pictures or on the net... so, a few questions have to be answered:
Did only officers of the Schießschule have this silver star... If so, this means that Schießschule officers and Garde Feldartillerie officers had different helmets... or is it a Fahnrich's helmet... or is it something else?
Sure hope you guys can help me out here...

Hi Karel,

I have found through the years that 98% of what older collectors told me as gospel was made up. Look at Johansson's Pickelhauben book. Like reading a fairy tale. I was told some crazy stuff by advanced collectors. I really cannot see an officer of the Schießschule wearing a Mannschaften star. You see this pattern of eagle Wappen very often in period photos on Eigetumsstück and Fähnrich Pickelhauben. When I saw your photos and noted the officer Kokarden, I immediately thought "what a beautiful Fähnrich helmet", unusual with the stars rather than domed studs for the spike base, but weird combinations pop up. However, when I saw your description as officer and then I was confused.

To me, thise is a very scarce Garde Feldartillerie Fähnrich. Oh, plus the Schießschule :cherry: But this is just my opinion.

Tony, I also think the Fahnrich model must be the only possibility... and getting confused is something I do so often... so don't worry, you're not alone... :)
It is indeed a fact that we can learn every day, but I also want to defend the "old collectors" because in those days, they only had a few books as refference... The net didn't exist and information was only to find with other collectors and in books or magazines...
Anyway, the little problem is solved I guess...

Have to agree with the Fahnrich possibility....

Here is mine, picked this one up 10 or so years ago, has one of the tallest spikes in my collection, and a varient in the liner, my personal opinion is the liner is ok, as I have seen others over the years with similar liner.

Since we are talking about the Field Artilley Shooting School, this marked issue example may fit in with the discussion.

Great photos and discussion gentlemen. My interest in it is because the 1900 regualtions for the East Asian Artillery state that they should wear the helmet of the Schießschule, and I always wondered why they defined the Schießschule rather than Garde Feldartillerie....

Cheers
Chris

Having been to the US Artillery School and becoming an excellent gunner and later a good howitzer section chief, I think these are very cool helmets indeed!
