A replica Pickelhaube with the leather turned the correct way:

http://cgi.ebay.de/garde-preussen-reich-ek-spitze-helm-berlin-potsdam-/160545586592?pt=Militaria&hash=item2561433da0

The crinkled finish may be intentional to mimic an antique.

The spine shutter is placed very low, but otherwise it's not too bad for a replica.

Looks like the helmet body may be seamed at the rear.

The visor trim has a slightly odd angle, too.

This would probably dupe a lot of bidders over here.

OMG !!
A very good looking replica !!.

Very close to an original .

The future of collectors being more and more darker...

This is why a return policy is a MUST. Once you get even a good replica in your hands, you can tell the difference.
However, there are some nice replicas out there and I don't see that aging them is really essential... because then; if not listed as a replica, it's a fake.

I'll have to click the link at home... ebay de doesn't come up here before my work day (or during :P )

Okay, finally got a look.... that thing just screams 'replica'. Nice replica though, but to me the crazing doesn't look old or original, it looks like the finish failed. I dunno about the spike, the replica shops have nice repro-spikes.

:D Ron

He sells it as a replica, although the term "Sammler-/Museumsanfertigung" may not be clear to international bidders..

Its a nice replica, but its just too shiny and new to me for something that should be nearly a century old.

Best regards,

Edwin

Agreed. Nothing like a good honest patina! However, great helmet for re-enactors!

Was the metal work ever that shiney on a new original?

Check out the section on "cleaning" here: http://www.kaisersbunker.com/preservation/index.htm

There's a neat photo of a German soldier polishing a helmet.

If the Germans were anything like US soldiers (and others for that matter), they polished the furniture to a high shine unless it was glit, silvered or frosted.
