Hello, one of my friends whos loves ww1 german militaria has found a pickelhaube in germany and he sent me photos asking if this is authentic.
I am not so sure it looks like a model 1860 prussian guard pickelhaube but I need a second opinion
It will be really appreciated
-Thank you

Need better photos... also of the interior. My gut reaction is that it's a fake, but with better photos, that may be wrong.

It seems to me that this is a fake because there are several issues like, for example, the odd spike, the overall shape of the helmet does not correspond to that of a M1860 pickelhaube and the weird rear spine. Although I was unable to find a similar helmet in one of my reference books, I am sure that more knowledgeable forum members can provide better information. Its just my opinion and I may be completely wrong here and as always I bow to the opinion of the experts :notworthy:

Edwin

To me the shell looks good, but other than that, it looks like a parts helmet with perhaps some repro parts on it. The detail on the plate and star look mushy to me, but like Edwin, I don't have an example of this type. So, let's wait and see what others say. These photos are MUCH, MUCH better. A look at the back of the plate and any imprint on the helmet from it would be good. Also, the chin strap rosettes don't look right to me (as if they're for flat scales or are integral with the scale next to them). I don't like the look of the spike retainers, they look like furniture tacks with wires soldered into them.
