What happened to a poor lefty recruit at his first training at the riflerange ? :o

Who can help with a picture of a lefty in action ???

This is an example in the standing position.

I think it became a problem in the prone position !

Francis,

You know I don't recall ever coming across that. I mean it's a good question. I don't know. :-k

Up until 50 years ago there were no left handed soldiers. :D
A few years back I took my son-in-law out to the range to fire M-1s. He is left handed (and a soldier) and never hand fired an M-1 before. On firing the first round he hit himself in the nose with the op-rod.

I am a lefty, and have fired many military weapons from the Brown Bess to the M16 and M60 ... trapdoors, Krags, '03 Springfield, M1, M14, M1 carbine, M3 greasegun, Thompson, many types of Mauser, several models of Enfields, MP40, Ppsh41 and 43, K43, MG34, SKS, AK-47 to name a few. Some flintlocks can be exciting, and firing the M16 full auto can be an adventure, especially from the hip, occasionally flying brass would hit the face or chest but that was the only one that I had any issues with, and it was relatively minor. With practice, a lefty can get pretty fast with a bolt action, but it's definitely awkward, and will never be as fast as a well practiced righty.
