I found this interesting about pistols once owned by Napoleon that recently sold, and the story behind them:

Cool! Thanks for sharing it with us. I knew about the vial of poison that Napoleon had concocted for him during the disastrous 1812 campaign, and how he consumed that vial a little while later, but I didn't know that he had also owned pistols for that same purpose!

Suicide by the 2 pistols story is a bit made up imo. They are Duelling or Target pistols. He probably said " mon dieu ze Roast Beefs are always winning I might as well shoot myself with zese pistols pass me more Claret now lets regroup" Rob

I agree with Rob, I highly doubt that these were meant for suicide, and most likely were more just for show, as dueling pistols often were. If I were to guess, I'd say that Napoleon did have a pistol for suicide, it would be more or less just an average pistol. I'd like to hear other's opinions on this however.
