Please your opinion about this Garde helmet

Hi all friends and fellow collectors,

My friend Bertrand and me are interested with this Garde helmet selling by Eiko Fuchs who is well know for his high quality or rare items. Our question is to which unit could belong this helmet? Surely not the 2d Garde zu Fuss Regt because it should be stamped something like "II GRzF" and "BAG" and it should have a black Haarbush but it's not the case. Bertrand's hypothesis is that this helmet is in fact from the 2d Grenadiere Regt and that its eagle front plate has been changed with one of the Garde Regts. So, what's your opinion about this item?

Max, the computer ate my answer. So I will try to give you my opinion again. It is just that an opinion.
There are three regiments in contention.
1. Second Garde Regiment zu Fuß
2. Second Garde grenadier Regiment
3. Second grenadier Regiment.

If it was number one. You might expect G.R.z.F. Garde Regiment zu Fuß
If it was number two, you might expect GGRKF
If it was number three you would not be surprised by something done with the name Koenig Friedrich Wilhelm IV.

Instead, we had GR . The problem is that this abbreviation has been used for both grenadier regiments and guard regiment helmets. In fact the weapons guys use the abbreviation 1GR to talk about Garde Regiment zu Fuß.

Therefore, I do not think that the abbreviation GR is conclusive. I think if we did a better job, we would know by year which abbreviation to use.

it should have a black Haarbush but it's not the case.
for choice, number three, the Bush would be black.
For choice number one the first two battalions would be white and the third black.
For choice number two, the Bush would be white.

This is clearly a second Battalion helmet. I do not like the elongated holes behind the front plate.

There seems to be a second faint stamp below the GR marking. Has this been crossed out, and could this indicate a change as reason for the widened holes?

Hi friends,

Thanks for your very clear explanations! Joe, you're becomming an expert, congratulations!!!
I'm sure Bertrand will be happy to read your answers.
