If only these poor souls would do a little research...

OK--I'll play along. Besides the missing spike, repainted
rosetts and the fact it's missing part of the liner, what else
is wrong? :?

I'll never learn if I don't ask.

Hi Bruno,
Thanks.

I did notice the spike base and just assumed it to be some odd
variation. ( I know, I know never assume :D ) As for the
wappen--I don't know. If it's a fake-I have seen worse.

I would echo all of the above concerns, plus the sweat band has folds in it. It may be original but certainly not from this helmet. Sweat bands do not have all of these folds when they are original to the helmet. The wappen looks like a very poor casting (all the tiny holes) and spray painted gold. Brian

Looks like someone out there thought it was worth almost $620.
It's amazing.

I once invited a lot of grief for discussing these copies, which I believe are produced in India. At the time, military-bargains-uk had a motherload of artificially distressed specimens that were being auctioned on eBay as "original and rare."

The manufacturer of the helmets, who was personally selling them as reproductions, is a member of the forum, but hasn't posted since 2006.

Does anyone recall "gsm7?" For a while he maintained his own website, and some of his reproductions were sold through prussianglory.com.

The essence of my gripe was that these reproductions, not permanently labeled as such, were exploited by dishonest dealers to defraud novice collectors. Military-bargains-uk is no longer a registered user on eBay, but his legacy lives on. These repros have probably passed through several hands by now, and those selling them are unaware the helmets are recent fakes.

Chas.

That's the beauty of ABS vac-formed replicas--they look decent on the shelf, but can't easily be confused with the real thing.
