I see that there is no subject devoted to this small town that was the heart of the German Empire: Potsdam. This place is very loaded to the historical point of view and this city is witness to the two great world wars.
I come away some pictures of my orgarnise by the beautiful family trip. It is a very beautiful city and I recommend doing a little while
"SANS SOUCIS" Castle is the former Summer Palace of the King of Prussia Frederick the great. It is located in Brandenburg near the town of Potsdam, 26 kilometres south-west of Berlin. We often range Sanssouci among the main rivals of the Palace of Versailles, although the Palace has been made in a more intimate rococo style and is also significantly smaller than its French counterpart. The Palace of Frederick is renowned for the many temples or other extravagances of the Sanssouci Park, adjacent to the building.You should know that the Emperor William II had never lived in this castle...
Before arriving at the Castle, there is a mill of era and a barracks (see Eagle above the roof)
The location and layout of Sanssouci above a hillside of vines reflected the pre-romantic ideal of harmony between man and nature in a landscape ordered by the hand of the gardener. Frederick disliked the gardens in English, preferring the gardens à la française. Viticulture, soon moves to the background and gives way to pleasure gardens. The Hill on which Frederick decided to implement his terrace vineyard becomes the central axis of his estate, crowned by a relatively modest Castle - mein Weinberghäuschen ("my small cellar"), as Frederick likes to call it. Boasting panoramic views of the surrounding area, the King wishes to reside here "sans souci" and engage in artistic or personal passions. The Palace is reserved for the King and his relatives during the summer months, from late April to early October.
