I am considering purchasing a schirmmütze from Sergio at http://www.Militaria-Online.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The item number is 101 and descibed as:

Preussen Flieger Schirmmütze

Preussen Offz. Flieger Schirmmütze um 1916

There are three photographs.

I collect WWI Imperial German aviation militaria (crash helmets, leather flight helmets, goggles, photograps, etc...) I have never purchased a schirmmütze. If you have a few minutes could you take a look at the schirmmütze and let me know your opinion about the cap and if this is a cap a WWI german aviator would have worn.

Thank-you in advance.

Dan

Yes, Fliegertruppen would have worn that cap.

This cap was also worn by all of the Feldartillerie (Field Artillery), Fußartillerie (Foot Artillery) Regiments, Pionier (Pioneer) Battalions except Sachsen (Saxon), and all of the Verkehrstruppen Truppen. Verkehrstruppen were Transportation Troops; they included all Eisenbahn (Railway), Telegraphen (Telegraph), Flieger (Flying), Luftschiffer (Balloon and Zeppelin).

I have bought from Sergio many times and been very pleased.
