Dear fellow forum members,
I'm sure many of you have seen this helmet on weitze.net before. It is one of the most beautiful helmets I know and it is the first thing I will buy when I finally get the lottery jackpot 🤩:ROFLMAO:🤩
When I took a closer look at it, I noticed the cockades. I have already seen an imperial cockade in the Hessian style, but this is the first time I have seen a one-piece Prussian officer's cockade. A black fanned disk with silvered edge. Simply beautiful 😍

Oh man, the price is really high 😱 I didn't dare to ask 🫣
About the cockade, I had completely forgotten that the Leib-Kürassier-Regimentes Nr. 1 had a special cockade, which is flattened on one side. This was only available in this design 🫣😶‍🌫️🤫

Way above what I am prepared to pay

Thank you very much for this post! I have asked myself exactly this question several times.

There have been at least 4 different KR 1s on the market in recent years.

All had different Prussian cockades!!!

From all the helmets that were on sale, this helmet with these cockades - I think Steve bought it - would be my reference!

Best wishes,

GardeUlan

Indeed; crazy price!
-This is what J.L. LARCADE is writing in his Volume II:
"The Offz helmet for the Regiment Nr. 1 has the unique chinscales according to the tradition: in accordance with the Regimental history they date back to a batch of war booty of the 1814 War: taken from the Manufacture de Versailles. (Regimentsgeschichte by v. Zedlitz und Neukirch; page 185). This scales were flat-not convex; with a trim. The two halves of the chinscales are attached to the rosetten (trefoil shape) and secured by means of a small hinge. The Kokarde is not serrated, made of black painted tin plate with a silver border. Not totally round: cut off at the hinge points to leave space for the chinscale halves to be freely moved in the rosetten hinges." [I would say: Mr. Larcade made a mistake when describing the Prussian colours of the Kokarde...]. Pierced out of center; near the cut off side.
-Offz Preußische Landkokarde: *Folded; not serrated; Colours: from the edge to the center: black-silver-black-silver.
For the Offz Helm: The regulations as of May 15th 1899 (D.V.E. Nr.317, version 1911) stipulate a Kokarden diameter of only 5cm (compared to the Kokarden for the other Kürassier Regts: approx. 6,5cm.) Called: nach "Alt Hessischer" Form-"Old Hessian style".
-Volume II page 19: shows the details on the Kaiser's Leib-Kürassier-Regiment Nr.1 (then in Huis Doorn; now in Burg Hohenzollern).

In my years of collecting
I have owned two other 1 L K R 1 officers helmets
The first one was a reserve officer
It came out of an old Chicago collection
While it was / is 100 % correct , the body had lost it's finish
in place , but the plus was when the special front plate was removed
the outline of the plate was seen 100 % , just like on a leather body
the finish under the plate was like new .
The next helmet was purchased from a collector friend , when
he sold some of his collection .
I sold it to a collector and he still has it .
I tried to buy it back not too long ago without any luck .

Here is the first 1 L K R 1 officers helmet that I had.
A reserve officer , the only one that I had seen .
The finish of the body was blistered , except under the front plate.
Back in the day when I bought it the going rate for this helmet
was about $2,000 I think .
I traded it to a collector friend .
A few years ago I offered to buy it back for $20,000
with no luck .
