It is about time that a sub forum was created on the Felt/Filz helmets that many of us have in our collections. Here is one of mine that I have had for quite awhile:
This piece is in good condition, no tears in the felt and unlike many, it has it's original brass visor trim and chin strap.
No rear spine despite the brass visor trim.
A very unusual oil cloth liner which I had never seen before prior to buying this helmet. You can also see a braided cotton strip hanging down in the pictures. This strip used to be stitched round the edge of the liner (inside) providing a bit of extra padding for the head.
The maker and size label is still glued on the inside after 100+ years!
