Prussian Garde-Ulanen Tschapka M1915

Isn't this rather an M1915 Prussian Guard-Uhlan Tschapka with the twist-off mortar board instead of an 'M1889'?
Too bad it's missing one hard piece to find (the Feldzeichen).

Something that still confuses me however: Should there be a Guard Star on this one or not?

From what I understand from a former thread, the star wasn't always fitted. That was on a Tschapka in Minneapolis. Anyway, I don't know a lot about Tschapkas and would do what you did... ask here... if I were going to buy one.

It most certainly looks like a M15 tschapka but, however, I don't know much about tschapka's and therefore my opinion is of little use I am affraid :(

The field badges do sometimes turn up. Over the last 15 years I've snagged one example each of the enlisted field badge for Württemberg, Braunschweig and Prussia. One for a Prussian officer's busby also turned up within the last 4 years. Sometimes the sellers simply don't know what they are and list them in odd places on eBay.

It looks like a pretty decent example of the M15 Tschapka. Sometimes people cut and paste the wrong words when borrowing from websites.

This Tschapka looks good for me.

About the starless eagle plates on the Garde Tschapkas, it seems to be a typical detail on the "War Bond Helmets" brought back in USA after 1918. Not sure that they have been worn starless during the war.

What is a war bond helmet?

FMK (for my knowledge)

The city of Koblenz fell into the US controlled sector after WWI. In a warehouse were thousands of new and reconditioned Pickelhaube that were sent back to the US as prizes for war bond drives (bonds that helped defray the immediate cost of the war to the government). Around 40,000 arrived in the US and were distributed. There are threads about these helmets on the site. Unfortunately for the troops in Koblenz, after a few were 'liberated' from the warehouse, the stash was locked down tight (I smell politicians and officers here) and very few fell into the hands of the guys who actually fought the war, because most went to civilians in the US. You can imagine how well a kid and a Pickelhaube got along... for about two weeks. #-o

According to a french collector, the stars for Garde Uhlan eagles were sent to USA in a different lot and they were never fixed on these helmets. The few M1915 Tschapkas that I saw for sale in Germany or Europe were all with the correct star (a bit smaller) fixed on the eagle front plate.

I'm looking for three of these typical field grey little Garde stars... if somebody knows where I can find it.

Which is a lot for a good+ helmet missing so many major parts (feldzeichen, strap, cockade & Guard star)...
