Gents,
Apart from being super polished, what do you think of this one including markings?

My first impression is that it looks ok, although I am not completely sure about the authenticity of the chinstrap because it looks suspicious to me in certain pics. However, it seems that all the pics have been substantially enhanced with photoshop.

There are at least two different helmets being photographed there. One with brass trim, the other silver and the chin straps don't match at all. Avoid this one man! =;

Hey Ron, you're right! It's basically the 3rd to last photo--supposedly showing the pickelhaube's ghost--that's different from the rest...
Let's see what the seller has to say about that :-x

Isn't there something about this type of sword hilt? Isn't that a 'Grenadier' style or something? From what I could find, this type of hilt wouldn't have a garde star??? I'll keep looking. I haven't gotten LaCarde out yet.

They didnt have a star until 1889 or there abouts, but whats more interesting is that the eagle on the helmet is the grenadier type, while the photo from behind is the guard type sword hilt :-? Wonder which one you get when you buy it?

I had a bad feeling about this from the start and wasn't gonna bid anyway: The photos looked too 'over-exposed'/pale as if the seller was trying to hide something or make all shots homogeneous/coming from the same helmet...
Then you guys started pointing out the obvious: Ghost photo (3rd to last) of another helmet, wrong wappen with the (correct) reverse photo of a different one… Besides the sword hilt, all the M1895 and M1915 I’ve seen including mine have the sword tip ‘penetrating’ the bandeau between ‘MIT GOTT’ & ‘FUR KOENING’--right before the 'FUR' actually--when this one has a different bandeau. Probably an older model like you guys said.

He still got 2 helmets posted and a few more on their way as he told me…
Looks like we got us a new ‘seeallmyauctions’ kind of seller so beware everyone! :-x
 
I agree RON, to me it looks like (so far) there are some put together / mixed part helmets. There may be a few nice ones in with the 15 he's selling, so who knows. So far, though, none of the three he has so far has given me a good feeling.
Of course, helmets like this were / are common at shows and such and before all of the really good reference material and internet we have now, it was hit and miss at those shows (and even with reputable dealers who didn't necessarily know any more than the collector!). You had to literally hold the helmet in your hand and figure out if it all went together well. Sometimes, the pressure from fellow enthusiasts crowding around you to 'put it back on the table' so they could have their grab it at was almost overwhelming (mixed in with helmet fever :) )! I have a 'Saxon' infantry M98 like that.... d-oh! 8-[ I'd imagine this guy's collection may have some of the same types of helmets and he may feel his descriptions are honest and complete, when flaws can be found in them.
