Looks nice! The chinstrap doesn't bother me, it doesn't belong with that helmet but looks like a good M15 chinstrap with a interesting makers mark.
 
Hello all,
The fact that it has what seems to be an M15/steel chinstrap doesn't bother be either since I hve an M15 Bav. haube with an M95/brass strap so I would simply swap these provided I bid and win.
It's actually the fact that the strap seems dyed on both sides + is dated 1917 that bothers me... What do you think?

Again, I try to stick to M15/wartime haubes but having 1 M95 Prussian haube wouldn't bother me since these were also used during the early period of WW1...
 
The stamp seems to have the correct `c`s based on the earlier thread about the stahlhelm liners mark. I don`t think its dyed on both sides, maybe treated with something? As for the date perhaps it was made for an m17 stahlhelm? I seem to remember reading somewhere that the m16 was issued without a strap, where the m17 was issued with a strap?
Having said that, I havnt seen a strap with a makers mark before.
Its a nice helmet and even if the strap is a repro, its a nice one and will look better than most of the nasty copies around. Just my thoughts

The major problem is that this is a 9-day auction and the price will go beyond reason I'm sure...
 
It is a nice, clean example so I guess the "bid kiddies" will get into a war over who holds first place ](*,) but you never know. I always snipe auctions, that way I can decide how much I am prepared to pay and never need to look at the item again.

That's what I do as well but there's always those who enjoy increasing the price beyond reason instead of patiently waiting till the last moment or so... :twisted:
 
Have you considered contacting the seller and make him an offer he can´t refuse?

Come to think of it Andy, that same maker ('OTTO KOCH & CO. BERLIN') used small caps in his stamping of the M16 liner in that other thread (http://www.pickelhaubes.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6170" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), i.e. 'Otto Koch & Co. Berlin' with 'S.O.' after 'Berlin'... Don't know if this is relevant but wouldn't the same maker use a similar/consistent way of signing their stuff?

As weird as this may sound, chinstraps are quite important to me as when I find myself 'stuck' with a haube that has a fake strap or none at all, I would always have that sound in the back of my head constantly reminding me to look for a (good) one to complete my helmet. This is not the issue with cockades as these are fairly easier to find it seems, the Prussian ones at least.
