Gentlemen, what do you think of this one in terms of markings mainly?

According to the seller, the most visible markings are:

"RM1" under the front visor
"28R I" & "904" inside and the latter ("904") might be preceded by a "1" but he can't tell for sure...

Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/130872462253?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Please let me know if this would be a good Prussian EM M1895 if I was to have only 1.
Plus could you approximate shell size from the photos?

Darn! Just noticed the little eagle on the scepter has lost its head!!

What else? :-k

Hey Joe, this is the same '28 R. I." regimental marking; thanks!

From your online ref. article, it stands for Infantry Regiment Nr. 28 which was based in the 'Ehrenbreitstein' Fortress in the city of Koblenz, which was part of Prussia, correct?

Which would mean the (Prussian) wappen on the Ebay helmet does match that marking...

Any idea what the 'RM 1' under the neck guard means?

You lost me Ron!

Hey Joe,

The marking on the eBay helmet I posted at the beginning of this thread is exactly like the photo you posted above and according to your (pretty darn useful :thumb up: ) weblist, this stands for Infantry Regiment Nr. 28--which was based in the 'Ehrenbreitstein' Fortress in the city of Koblenz (Prussia).

In other words, wappen + regimental marking on the eBay helmet match. Too bad that wappen was mutilated!!

Now what I'm trying to find out is what 'RM 1' under the eBay helmet's neck guard means... Anyone knows?

Regarding the markings R28 stands for 28th regt. Note that the I next to it is much larger than the R. I thought in a previous "markings" thread that we established this as an indication of "condition" ie. it was top front line quality. The other markings....I have no clue.

Sometimes I don't get those 'rooky' eBay shell bidders! :x

The helmet was first offered for $399 as a starting price and the helmet didn't get a single bid... (I wouldn't have hesitated had the wappen not been 'mutilated' as noticed above)

However, when the seller relisted the item for $250, I thought to myself why not try and eventually upgrade that wappen one day since I already have the missing fittings (cockades & M95 strap)... it has great markings after all and isn't bad overall. But hey, a couple of smarties decided to take the price past $440 with 22 bids and there's still close to 2 hours to go!!! #-o
