Hello everyone. I dug in my archives here and found the post about my one and only M1915 Prussian officer haube. As you can see, it has a few peculiarities:
1. It is made of vulcanfiber instead of real leather—this particular maker made these as such and the advantage is that the shell remains in great condition shape wise with virtually no crazing to its surface
2. The M1915 spike is screw off (as opposed to the more common twist off “bayonet type”)
3. The cockades don’t come off (the more common M15 had these removable too for camouflage purposes—the idea was for officers to “blend in” with the crowd in case they were picked up by enemy snipers—but then again they hid their helmets under Überzugs so the cockades were hidden too and the very efficient manufacturer must have thought what the heck, let’s save some money and leave them the old non-removable style) (see further down for a photo of the helmet dismantled).
