Prussian M95 enlisted pattern J.R. 137 / I.B.R.J.R.60 or 66

Hello,

Here's a nice Prussian M95 enlisted pattern helmet I just picked up. It's a small size 54, 1915 dated, with the round version maker mark of Alexander Dahl of Barmen.

I supplied the national kokarde, otherwise it came with the chinstrap and Prussian kokarde. (Kokardes look shiny because of the flash used. Another overcast day w/more rain...)

The helmet has already been placed on an adjustable head form to get it back into proper shape.

I'm very happy with the dual "J.R. 137" and "I B R J R 60" (or is it "66"?) markings. (First Battalion Reserve Jaeger Regiment 60 or 66)

Best Regards,

Alan

Alan,

You have been extremely productive! A small thing, but RJR 66 is infantry not Jaeger. Looks like 66 to me but I would check the chart in GWD.

Thanks for your nice comments guys!

The more I look at the markings since posting this last night, I am now fairly convinced that it is a "60" instead of "66". If you look at the lower right corner of the last digit, it is squared off, as compared to the first digit of "6" where the ink stamped 6 is more rounded on the lower right corner of the number. Seeing those small differences fairly well convinces me it is "60" for the number part of the marking.

Chip M. saw the helmet posted last evening on another forum and shared this information about the units: "The regimental staff and the I & III battalions of Res.Inf.Rgt.Nr.60 were formed by I.R.Nr.137 on August 2, 1914."

Best Regards,

Alan

I fully agree with IB RJR60 :D
As the "Busche" is mentioning:

Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 60

Aufgestellt in Hagenau (R.Stb., I., II.) und Weißenburg (III.)
Unterstellung: 30. Res.Div. (Bei der Mobilmachung war sie Besatzung der Feste Kaiser
Wilhelm II.)
Kommandeur : Oberstleutnant Zechlin (I.R.Nr. 17)
I.: Oberstleutnant Dieckmann (I.R.Nr. 137)
II.: Major Stüve (I.R.Nr. 60) gef.: 7.9.14
III.: Major Bischoff (I.R.Nr. 166)
Verluste : 71 Offz., 1462 Uffz. und Mannschaften

The IB RJR66 was formed by JR93.

You have to be a little bit careful with the Busche manuscript. What he does is tell you where the commanders were from. The table in GWD gives a more robust view of the different function for each of the reserve regiments. Just my two cents worth.

Hi Joe,

There are always exceptions but I (and other french collectors too) could observe many many times in the past that there is a very high and tight and very serious coherence between these two facts (Officers active origin unit and equipment fluctuation of the EM in the reserve unit). The garrison cities where the reserve units are formed are also pretty important. At the mobilisation, there was no time to send the equipment through the whole empire. It was mostly a local question.
I agree, sometimes there are some very few exceptions, but they confirm this rule.
Those exceptions are mostly seen in such complicated and small units with different but although very local origins as the small saxon duchies

By the way, Joe, do you have a scan or a link to access to this GWD source? It would be interesting to compare both sources :D

Hi Joe,

Can you give me a link or access to the GWD chart that you're referencing. I'm ignorant as to what "GWD" stands for, and where I can find this information.

Best Regards,

Alan

Joe,
Do you mean this?

Alan and Felipe,

We are currently on a cruise. We have left our house sitters dealing with the floods. And therefore I do not have access To any of our files. I agree that this source is very very close but we found enough problems to readdress it in GWD. The listing in there was several pages long. GWD = Great War Dawning. Of course this is just my opinion. :D

The voice thing gives you the misspellings sorry about the name .
