USN,
Very nice helmet. You don't get them "out of the woodwork" very often anymore.
It needs a Prussian Kokarde.
PM me and I'll send you one.

John :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

Nice helmet, unfortunately, all I can make out is the date 1915. Of further note though is the spine size “2” stamped into the lower tang. I have only seen size stamps on the upper tang where it is hidden under the spike base. Very nice to have that original chin strap. :thumb up:

The far right stamp appears to be a D.I (maybe a 1) 2.K. that's all I've been able to fully read and I had noticed the size stamp on it as well but didnt know it being in that location was anything special. Is there any way to get the markings to pop out more with editing or anything? I'd very much like to know where this came from. Or if maybe the writing on the inside means something

Sometimes if you wet them with spit and maneuver them in direct sunlight they can be deciphered. Sounds gross, but it can work. Other members have used their computers to try and manipulate pics to highlight markings but that is beyond me. Regarding the pencil script, it is probably the guy's name. Some of our German members may be able to offer some help.

Congratulations! The only thing I can read is inside the skull: "B.A. V" with 1915? below. Bekleidungs-Amt V. Armee-Korps, clothing department for the 5th Army Corps.

USN,

I can tell you that the name is 100% LOHMANN from a 9th Companie. Unfortunately the guy did not mentioned the unit number behind the company...

But it´s true, we have a BA.V. stamp which is silesian and west-prussian. The unit stamp on the left side of the neckguard is unfortunately illegible. The other side shows a stamp 2.K (2. Kompanie). It is possible that the helmet has changed the unit at some time.

Here are the active units of the AK V that have worn such infantry Haubes: JR19, 46, 47, 50, 58, 154, 155, FR37 and finally not to forget the TB5 (or Tr.A.5 in war time). Does the spike unscrew? Then it would speak for the TR.A.5 (Train Abteilung).

Maybe you can try to slightly wet the markings on the rear visor and make better picts, because LOHMANN is a very common name in Germany....It´s good that we have his company number but to track him, we absolutely need his unit...

Philippe
