Here are some photos of my Prussian Infantry Mannschaften Schirmmütze:

The Kokarden are the private purchase type held on with bent pins.
It is in very good shape for it's age and only shows slight moth holes:

The interior is not bad, but the soft leather sweatband has turned brittle and has lost some pieces:

The Schirmmütze still has a clear and readable manufacturer's stamp:

It makes for a matched set to this Model 1895 Prussian EM Pickelhaube:

The Pickelhaube shown was my very first. It was purchased by my Dad as a gift in 1965. He paid $6.00 for it. It is the Pickelhaube that started my obsession.

John :)

My Dad bought me my first helmet the same year, but I think over paid, it cost him $7.00.

Maybe the extra $1.00 was for the chinscales! :D
I wonder how many of us still have our first.

John :)

Not sure of others, but I've held on to this helmet because I still get that "feeling" that started me collecting when I look at it. Was my first and will more than likely be the last one I would part with.

Your Dad had excellent taste in helmets. I bought my first......a crappy dried out Prussian M15 with red rot liner. I sold it years ago.

My first was a M15 as well . Both visors are Vulcan fiber and it was missing C/S and Cocardes.

The rear visor was half off . I made a c/s for it ( cut the metal from tin plate)

Got it back then for $210 at a show in 1995 ?

BTW nice mutze !
