My latest pickelhaube.
It was a bit of a journey getting the parts but I managed to find original replacements for the missing parts, and had some help from Brian and James with the rosette.
This was a classic case of a neglected helmet that lost parts over the years.
The basic helmet was in good shape and the wappen (which was covered in years of grime etc.) cleaned up nicely with a bit of vinegar and now the gilt looks great. (Pictures do not do it justice.). The wappen is one with the split prongs on the back like some that have been mentioned a couple times in other postings.
As you can see it had one kokarde and part chinscales. (On the wrong side.). I managed to get original chinscales, kugel spike and Prussian kokarde. It had one rosette and I got another one that is a close match thanks to Brian and James.
Helmet was a deal price wise but ended being a bit more expensive after all the parts. I am happy though to have spent the money to bring it back to where it should be.
Looks great next to it’s British Gunner cousin. (First six pictures are from the seller).
