This one is my brothers, but since I am watching his helmets while he is in the Gulf, I thought I would post it for him.

Basic Prussian Shako in excellent condition but has a little leather tab that is attached through the side of the Shako with a clip?

Any ideas? Price tag, inventory tag??? it is very cool..

Hi james. Does it have any regimental stamps at all? I wondered if it could be a kind of test type helmet and the clip held the official tag/document dealie?

Well, I may be way off here, because I'm no expert, but I think that's the strap used to secure the horse-tail looking plume (I don't know what it's called) that some regiments that wore that type of shako used. See the shako in Oberst von Carlowitz's hand in the attached photo. The problem is, I don't think the Prussians used that type of plume.

Or this shako on the Kaiser's Bunker site http://www.kaisersbunker.com/dunkelblau/helmets/dbh49.htm
