Prussian Tschako

Hello everyone,

I saw a Prussian Tschako online for 400€ and wanted to ask, if it is original, because I dont know much about Tschakos. I know that the Prussian Kokarde is missing and that the chinstrap could be a replica.
Thanks for your help.1000045526.jpg1000045518.jpg1000045525.jpg1000045519.jpg1000045520.jpg1000045522.jpg

Hi Alisson,

Looks good to me, I would ask for a clearer shot of the chinstrap, but it looks good with what I can see. I'd be happy with it at that price. Everything looks original.

There should not be a Prussian Cockade as the Feldizchen (the black and white topper) is used in the place of the cockade. It is correctly arranged.

Good find.

Welcome to the forum. I like it because it looks like it is named and unit identified. I don’t know about the attachments the loop on the back of the wappen. But nice nonetheless.
Best regards
John

Hi,
The loops on the back of the Wappen have been resoldered :(
I would not buy it until I have a better pict of the markings and of the name...

I really do not know what to think about this Tschako... The chinstrap is not original!
The markings are very old for this pattern, dated 1866 and regimentally marked with IB, 3. Thüringisches-Infanterie-Regiment. Formed on May 5, 1860, as the 31st Combined Infantry Regiment from the three Landwehr core battalions: Erfurt (1st Battalion), Mühlhausen (2nd Battalion), and Sangerhausen (Fusilier Battalion) of the 31st Landwehr Regiment.
This old initial Landwehr formation of the regiment is maybe the explanation that we have here a Tschako marked with this thurigian unit, as this unit normally wore the Pickelhaube.
But this Wappen is not born on this Tschako, as the M91 side posts, the Wappen and the iron grommets...
