Purchased helmet at estate sale. Is it authentic?

Welcome here! This is an original Prussian Model 1915 helmet, M15, so it is authentic.
Unfortunately, it has been polished to much, most of the fieldgray is gone on the wappen (the plate on the front) and several other places.
Then again, it is a genuine ww1 german pickelhaube. The skirt on the rear is also deformed, and it is missing the kokarden and chinstrap.
But it is an original helmet none the less. The liner looks okay too, I see no red flags on this one.

Regards, Coert.

I agree with Coert’s comments. In regard to the “field grey” finish, this originally had either a matte grey painted or chemically oxidized finish to the steel hardware fittings. Someone likely cleaned rust off of portions of this finish at some point in time. This hurts the value somewhat and most collectors prefer originality. Nonetheless, it is an original helmet that could be improved by proper re-shaping on a head form. Anyone should be proud to have it! Your husband has a wonderful and thoughtful wife.
