This is an interesting helmet. Appears to have fresh paint on the underside, but what is especially interesting is the D.R. 13 markings. The first thing that comes to mind is Dragonner Regiment 13. I realize this is not a standard Dragoon helmet, but I also know the Germans suffered materiel shortages (as evidenced by ersatz pickelhauben). Anyone else have thoughts here?

I know that the mounted jagger regiment 8-13 which were drawn up in 1913 could not have their jzp supplied in time and they wore the dragoon helmets until 1915. But vice versa,??
Yeah, I don't know. What I see is some standardization, but a lot of alternative utilization. A modern U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major would stroke out of have a heart attack...

Nah, the U.S. Army can be a logistical / marking mess during transitions and change overs, not to mention figuring out how to standardize individual equipment wear in the unit. I can understand if a Dragoon unit is changed to JzP, but hasn't actually started, or understood, the mission yet, they might still mark their equipment as Dragoons. Probably an indication of some unit pride or stubbornness. Pretty cool none the less. :)

Hello,
Another nice curiosity. Faced with the shortage of JzPf helmets, we know that the Ersatz-Squadrons of 8 and 13 JzPf were equipped with Dragon helmets. The 12th received cuirassier helmets.
But I've never seen a Dragon receive a helmet from JzPf. The scarcity was the other way around.
