Question about Austrian Field Cap

I am gearing up for the SOS next weekend, I am out for a KUK field cap and I wanted to know what the asking price for you standard EM KUK field cap was and where I can read up on them as well as any websites at the moment that has good examples so I can further my knowledge on them.

Best Regards.

Hey Michael,
The Austrian Kappe has become a rather spendy item in the past few years, and because of that, there are a lot of reproductions out there. Many were made for reenactors, but some were made to decieve the buyer. Many of the Kappes that end up on Ebay.de could be real, but it is really hard to tell with out handleing them. They sho up at SOS sometimes (I picked one up last year) and that may be a good place to pick one up, but the Euro has made the dollar prices a bit high, running in the 400Euro range, and that gets the dollar price up around $600. The Emperor's Coat is a very good refferance to use, and if you wish, I will bring Joe's copy (I borrowed it a few years ago, and never returned it).
Best wishes
Gus

Thank you for the info, with the holiday I do not believe I will be able to get the book in time but I will track you down at the show and glance at yours. 600 usd does not seem too bad I expected something around 800 for a piece of field gear. However I would sure love to purchase them at 400 that would be something else!

I have the book in my pack, and you are welcome to use it, I should be somewhere near Joe at the show, If you look at the program, look up Jerry rehr, as James swiped his table from, and we should be somewhere near there.

ps it was a bit of a ground blizzaard coming through Wyoming, lots of vehicles off the road and some upside down, but we are half way through New Braska and the roads are dry

Sorry I missed seeing you at SOS, there were only two Austrian caps there, one was mine, and I mainly brought it to show you, there was a nice pike grey Kappe on a friends table, and he wanted $950 for it, but he did not leave it on the table very long, as he realized that he did not want to sell it that bad. Prices were very high there, due to the Euro, but the Europeans did not seem to be buying as their economy is tanking like ours.
Best wihses
Gus
